Biathlon

This festival favorite is guaranteed to be a one-of-a-kind experience. Take advantage of the Nordic Heritage Center’s world-class biathlon venue to try your hand at either running or mountain biking combined with rifle marksmanship. Ride or run a short course, come into the range to shoot at targets, and then head back out on course, or head to the penalty loop if you miss a target! This event is open to folks of all ages! All participants are required to come to the range for instruction and practice when the range opens at 9:00 AM on Sunday.

Age categories

10 & Under: The course will be short, and there will be no penalties for missed shots. The participants will NOT be firing rifles, but rather tossing bean bags at targets. The event will consist of two laps around the course, and one turn “shooting” targets.

11-13: Participants in this category will fire air rifles. There will be a short penalty loop for missed shots set up between the range and the main lodge. The event will consist of three laps around a 1km course and two shooting stages.

14 & Up: Participants in this category will fire .22 rifles. There will be a short penalty lap around the lodge. The event will consist of three laps around a 2km course with two shooting stages.

Participants will not carry rifles on course. Maine Winter Sports Center coaches and athletes will control the firing range. No experience is required; participants will be introduced to biathlon during the “open range” hour prior to the event.
